Apex Species Camping is a performative site-specific installation comprising camping supplies, nature documentaries, a generator, and various found household items. The piece lasted three days, located adjacent to a popular hiking trail in Johnson City, TN. The artist "camped" alongside superfluous items designed for comfort and entertainment during the performance. Hikers could view the artist lounging on a sofa, viewing nature films, sweeping leaves from the rug that covered the forest floor, working on a laptop, microwaving popcorn, and preparing margaritas in a blender.
Apex Species Camping utilized satire to critique capitalist ideals
of need, power, value, and autonomy.
