Early in 2020, I decided to move out of my apartment and into an old conversion van to research spatial identity's conditional nature.
Simultaneously, the country began to realize that Covid-19 is a severe virus. Days after moving into the van and turning over the keys to my former apartment, quarantine began. At this time, I was working toward my master's. Speaking as a student, we lost access to our studios, reliable wifi, our communities, campus in general, and so much more. All of a sudden, contingency plans were rapidly disappearing one by one. Still, I chose to move into the van. Of course, at that point, I did not have a choice, being as I was without a home in the pandemic.
These events certainly skewed what I thought I would learn, and ultimately I opted to end the experiment early due to the critical amount of unforeseen instances. Though this project did not go as planned, it was still a valuable experience I will perhaps revisit. Below are the documentation and self-portraits of the experience.
